Harnessing The Power Of Positive Thinking

The Power Of Positive Thinking

Shop The Post

Over the past year or so of me dedicating time and energy into being a more positive person and in general an all round better human being, I’ve discovered lots of different ways to be more positive. Positive thinking is an amazing way of not only becoming a happier person, but also being kinder, more productive, more motivated and just generally better.

Increasing Your Positive Thinking

I learn new techniques on the daily, but here are some positive thinking techniques that have really stuck and resonated with me.

Use The Secret

If you haven’t heard about The Secret then you’re missing out on a world of possibilities. I’m not even going to try to explain it to you because there’s no way that I can without you thinking I’m on crack. But seriously this book changed my life. I re-read it regularly when I need reminding how much of an impact your positive thinking or negative thinking has on your life. Basically, opportunities don’t just happen, you make them happen. Make them happen more by reading the Secret –  you’ll thank me!

If you have read it please share your thoughts and experiences! And if you haven’t, then read it and then share your thoughts and experiences!!! Click here to find out more and bag yourself a copy! If you’re not much of a reader it also comes in audio book & DVD form!

Show Your Gratitude

Gratitude is an amazing way of changing your train of thought. If you ever feel negative and in a downward spiral, just take a minute to list just 3 things that you’re thankful for. It could be your health, it could be your lunch, it could be your puppy, anything. Gratitude helps you to focus on what you have rather than what you don’t have.

Personally I like to do a gratitude list before I go to sleep, particularly if I’ve had a stressful day and have a lot on my mind. It helps me to stop thinking about what I have to do the next day and puts me to sleep in a good mood.

If you haven’t already seen it, then click here to read my previous post on why gratitude is so important!

Use Positive Language

A lot of us are so so guilty of using negative language as a habit. I personally put my hands up to this one and I’m constantly checking myself on it and trying to change it. Like any habit it’s hard to kick but totally worth it. By using words like I can’t, I might, I should you’re setting yourself up for failure and already letting in the possibility that you probably won’t succeed. If you talk about yourself like that and don’t believe in yourself then why on earth should anyone else?

Who want’s to listen to someone who only moans and has negative things to say? Not me! Your far more likely to reach your goals and be proactive when using language like I will, I can, I am, have conviction when you speak about yourself! Positive speaking = positive thinking!

I did a post on positive language a while back and still find it totally relevant, click here to see the post and find out more about how positive language can help you!

Positive Affirmations

So this is possibly the one you’ll balk at the most. But equally the one I find super helpful. I recently read an amazing post on how to use positive affirmations with some great examples by Paula from Thirteen Thoughts. Now everytime I feel stressed and overwhelmed, I take a minute to say to myself “I have enough time to do everything I need to do today” and the relief and motivation it brings me is so great.

Paula talks about using the affirmations in the morning which is a great idea, only that I have a terrible morning routine and always forget to do things like this. So I’ve been using this more as a tool box that I can go to when I need it. Another one I’ve been loving is “I was born to have an amazing life” and why wouldn’t I be?! What I love about the affirmations is that they link in with The Secret in the that if you truly believe and want something, by using positive thinking it will happen.

I hope you guys liked this post! I would love to hear your feedback on if you use any of the techniques or if you try them out and find them to be effective?!

I read The Secret a LONG time ago but I still think about it on a day to day basis. Positive thinking really is a beautiful thing. More people should utilize it. It would make the world a happier place to be for sure. Good post! I needed this.

Even if positive thinking doesn’t make something happen, it’ll at least make the process less painful, right? 🙂

I’m definitely going to give the book a try. I’ve heard a few good things about it actually. This was the kick up the butt I needed to get it. Haha. I definitely think gratefulness helps a lot. I’ve found that from experience. I’ve never tried positive affirmations, but I might just have to. Thanks for such a helpful, inspiring post x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
