So this week I thought I would have a go at some DIY hair dye, ‘don’t do it’ you’re thinking ‘go professional’ I hear you say. Yes well thanks so much but I really could have used that advice before I went through with it. Fat load of help it is now! So I was going for that beachy blonde highlight look so I decided to but the colour I liked in an all over dye and apply it to sections of my hair brushing it through for even coverage to avoid the zebra chic look. This step didn’t turn out so badly, if it turned out at all. I went lighter by 0.00001 of a shade and it was barely noticeable, however, there were no zebra stripes and it looked pretty even, I was a natural. Hungry for more I took myself down to superdrug and purchased a highlighting kit, a brush on one, not one of those awful cap things! I used a similar technique for the highlights and was pretty relaxed, after all I’d already succeeded once so I had nothing to worry about. Next thing I know, My hair is yellow. I don’t have hightlights, I have a yellow head, all over, top to toe. After bathing in silver shampoo for two days straight the yellows calmed down and it’s definitely growing on me. I wanted to share this experience with you guys to just say don’t do it, please learn from my mistakes! If any of you have hair nightmares I would love you to share your stories!!

The Happy Checklist

One of my guilty pleasures when I have some spare time on my hands is to scour the net for other fashion blogs, reading months back and getting totally hooked for far too long! When I was indulging myself the other day I came across this Happy Checklist from Chapter Friday. The concept of making time in your everyday life for small moments that can bring you a little happiness is something that really appealed to me! If your a regular reader of my blog you’ll know I’m very much a crusader of all things mindfulness, constantly looking for things to bring me happiness and positivity. So when I saw this I thought, I’m in. I’m not great at sticking to order so to start off I thought I would choose an easy one, to treat myself to a magazine I love. I’m actually a subscriber to Elle magazine yet I never seem to find the time to sit down and read it. In the corner of my room I have a steadily building pile of unread copies forming, so I decided to take some time out to indulge myself in a cup of tea and a good old magazine session. I think you should try it too! Each task is so simple and easy yet brings small moments of joy to your everyday life, if this list isn’t quite to your liking, why don’t you take a moment to think about what makes you tick and make your own list! I’d definitely add taking my dog to the field for an early morning play to the list, seeing her happy little face brings me so much joy, I can’t think of a better way to start the day! You can see the original post from Chapter Friday and print your own happy checklist here.

The Gift of Generosity

One of my main mantras in life is to always try to be positive and treat others how you expect to be treated yourself! I’m a firm believer that a small gesture of goodwill from yourself to someone else will not only make their day, but it might also make them more inclined to help others themselves, continuing a chain of goodwill! I often have generous thoughts and want to help people out, but would you believe that I actually stop myself because I don’t know how they’ll react and don’t want to ’embarrass’ myself . . . I know it’s ridiculous now that I think about it! A month or so ago me and my boyfriend went to Cambridge for the day and after a few hours of some hard core shopping my feet were severely blistered! After purchasing some plasters we headed back to the car and on the way I saw a girl limping with blood on the back of her foot. I said to my boyfriend I’m going to give her one of my plasters, to which he responded ” don’t you’ll embarrass me’ isn’t it awful that we would actually stop helping a stranger in case we embarrass ourselves!? For the record, I did give her the plaster and she was extremely grateful!! Anyway, I’ve kind of gone off subject here, but my new thing is that I will try and do at least one good deed, big or small a day and fight past the feelings of embarrassment to just do it! So when I was approached by SVP Jewellery about a collaboration which perfectly incorporated my new found generosity I jumped at the chance! I was gifted the most beautiful Blue Chalcedony Bon Bon Ring and set a lovely little challenge. The Blue Chalcedony is said to instill feelings of generosity and goodwill, therefore my task was to choose someone who means a lot to me and to gift them with this beautiful piece of jewellery. I know this doesn’t sound like much of a challenge but you haven’t seen the ring. A Faceted Blue Chalcedony set in 20 carat gold vermeil on sterling silver, and even better it’s adjustable so you can wear it on any finger! I did not want to give it away! I chose my sister, She’s not only my bestest buddy and partner in crime, but she’s also my blog photographer and we pretty much keep each other sane. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to create such a beautiful blog without the great imagery and she never complains, always helping me with new ideas and brainstorming. She definitely deserves this the most so I wanted to give her the ring to show her how much she means to me, and hopefully whenever she wears the ring she’ll not only think of me, but remember what the ring stands for passing on her own generosity! You can buy the Blue Chalcedony here, or click here to see the full range.

New Toy : Samsung NX3000

So this week I went to check out my new prospective camera, as mentioned in the previous post the Olympus PEN ELP-7. I was about to make my purchase when I decided to check out the Samsung NX3000, the similar style that I’d seen be compared to the Olympus in many reviews but as my sister said, it’s like when you want an Iphone but you get a Samsung. Anyway, after checking out the camera, apart from the fancy effects and the sleeker look I couldn’t really see much difference to the Olympus and at less than half of the price I brought it there and then! Let me tell you now that I am in LOVE. This is my new favourite toy and as I’m sure you’ll have noticed on my instagram if you follow me, already the images are such better quality. Not sure if I’ll be taking my selfies on the camera however! Sometimes not so great focus is what you want! So here’s what I love about my new camera: The Look, ok it’s no Olympus but it’s still got looks to kill and I feel pretty smug when I pull this baby out of my handbag! The quality, look how amazing it is! I love how you can focus on different areas The screen at the back flips up so you can take selfies and see yourself whilst doing it! There’s some really good filters WIFI – wifi is definitely the selling point for me! You can link it to your phone so your images go directly to your camera role, so perfect for instagraming! You can also use your phone as a remote control so you can take your own pictures if your photographers not around! I’ve been playing around with it a lot this week so I thought I would put up some of my photos to show you how much I love it and why you will too!

Over Thinking

I love this parabell taken from one of my favourite books “Hapiness and how it happens” by The Happy Buddah. For me, the main issue I have with my anxiety is my tendancy to overthink everything. I actually went through a phase of asking everyone else what I should do because I just couldn’t think for myself! How crazy is that?! I have more than just a wondering mind, I get totally lost in my thoughts, going over things that have happened and what would happen if they were different, worrying about things that haven’t even happened yet and probably never will. I found this book so helpful, it teaches you about happiness, which isn’t really a thing.. bear with me! When your happy, you don’t think about it, you just are. When your unhappy, you replay things over in your mind and obsess over whats making you unhappy. So essentially, by learning to clear your mind and ignore your thoughts which are described in the book as “stories”, you can lead a happier and more relaxed life. I’ve found this so helpful, particularly at times when I have been over thinking and stressing myself out to just stop, remember that your mind isn’t you, and notice what your mind is doing. The important thing to remember is to not be angry when you notice your mind being negative, to just notice it and forget it. You can find the brushes I used to make this quote on photoshop here
