Learning To Trust Yourself

I was triggered to write this post after listening to my sister ask me what to wear for the 100,000th time that day. Sorry Lauren, I do it to. It made me realise how indecisive we both are, constantly relying on the opinion of others. Its such a terrible trait to have that not only annoys others but it’s pretty draining as someone who doesn’t trust yourself!

Learning to trust yourself & your own judgement

After going to therapy for stress and anxiety I learnt to have more conviction in my decisions and to trust my own judgement. With anxiety comes questioning your own judgement and at my worst I’d even ask other people what I should eat I mean how is my Mum supposed to know what I want to eat? No one likes that kind of pressure!!

I’ve realised in myself that half of the time when I ask a question, I already know what I want to do, I just want someone to confirm what I want to hear. And if they don’t? I ask someone else. It’s pretty annoying to be honest which is why I wanted to write this post about how you should trust yourself. Do you do the same? Are you a serial question asker?

Here’s my tip, now, whenever I’m about to ask someone what I should do, I think about what my therapist used to say and stop and ask myself “what do I want to do?” and do that! Stuff everyone else, half of the reason I think I question myself is because of how much I care what others think. But shouldn’t what I think be the most important thing of all!?

Do you trust yourself? Let me know if I’m not the only one!

Gorgeous photos, I love your sandals and will be making a trip to the Mango website shortly. I completely agree, I, too, am very indecisive. Instead of asking questions though I just kind of let other people decide and go with the flow. Not all the time, mostly when I would prefer not to do anything at all. I definitely need to be faster at making decisions because I annoy myself. Great post and images! Can I ask how your comment section is in this style? Is it only available on WordPress? Xx

Did you get them!? I haven’t taken mine off since I got them! I use the wordpress plugin called Disqus for my comments! I find it easier for people to see and great for conversations!

I know it’s so simple really but sometimes you just need someone to point the most simple things out to you!

I relate to this so much, but hadn’t really thought about it much before! I’m always seeking approval for everything I think or feel or do! I just need to trust my gut! Lovely post Sinead! Xx

I can definitely relate to this. I really do not trust myself, and I’m forever asking “is that okay?” “should I do that?” “well, what do you think I should do”? Reading this post was a little bit like an awakening for me. I’ll definitely be asking myself “what do I want to do?” before I ask a question in the future! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

I’m such a great example of someone who needs to take their own advice though!!!

I did not expect to relate to this post so much! You’re exactly right, how would my mum know what I want for tea? but I often ring her up to ask anyway- I definitely need to trust myself more & go with my gut. It’s funny how my sisters lack of faith in her judgements irritates me yet I’m obviously the same! Thanks for the post- definitely food for thought!

Great post Sinead. I love posts like this and you’re so true! I guess it’s a whole confidence thing.
People pleasing doesn’t always work out. You need to love yourself and as you say, trust yourself.
I’ll definitely ask myself the right questions from now on. 🙂
