LISBON FOOD GUIDE | A Guide To Eating & Drinking in Lisbon

LISBON FOOD GUIDE - TIMEOUT MARKET

Hey guys and first let me start this post by apologising for the incredible delay in my post! I’ve been back from Portugal for around two weeks now and I’ve only just got round to writing this post! So let me share with you my tips from when I visited Lisbon! Where we went, what we ate and drank and where we ate and drank it!

LISBON FOOD GUIDE

So we only went to Portugal for 3 nights so it was 100% a whistle stop tour! We didn’t really do anything so much as just explore the city. Wandering around the beautiful roads, soaking up the atmosphere and the stopping at every other bar or resteraunts to fill up on food and wine! So here’s what we did!

WHERE TO EAT

Dear Breakfast ( Fauna & Flora )

On the first day went to Dear Breakfast for breakfast and it was amazing. The service wasn’t great but the food was and if you’re a fellow instagrammer and want to get that cute breakfast shot you’ve got to go! I had the Acai bowl which was so so good and Jack had the egg & pancakes which I have to admit came once my bowl had been completely finished! It still looked amazing though! We went to go to Fauna & Flora on the second full day and it was closed for summer, how crazy that they do this in Europe?! So we has to miss out but I was highly recommend this by a few people and the photos looked amazing! I always judge a place by how good their Instagram is!!!

Time Out Market

The time out market is a food market that’s been set up by Time Out magazine in Portugal. It houses a selection of stands from the best restaurants in Lisbon with something for to everyone. We trialled a few of the different stands but I would highly recommend first going to Cod Croquets and getting a cod croquet! They were so so delicious and so was the meat one! Then we stopped at Toranja and bought some tinned fish, they don’t have plates there but you can get plates and cutlery from any of the other stands and eat your tinned fish there and then! I got the tomato and tuna one and honestly I would never have had it if I wasn’t in Portugal (When in Rome) but it was so so delicious! Who knew how much I could like tinned fish? Then finally I would highly recommend finishing off your lunch with a stop at Manteigaria for the best Pastel De Nata I had the whole time I was in Portugal! This is open from breakfast until the evening but we felt that lunch was the perfect time as I don’t know about you but I love a big hearty meal for dinner rather than bits and bobs!

Pao A Mesa

We went here after a recommendation and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Me and Jack decided to share the Veal and it was incredible. So so delicious and we ate outside with wine and blankets when it cooled down in the evening, it was perfect!

Arco Da Velha

This is a super random restaurant we stumbled on and Jack had actually found on Trip Advisor. Filled with higgledy piggledy furniture it feels like a second hand furniture shop. The menus are super simple and written out by hand each day depending on what they have. It was super traditional and really great food! Lots of fish!

Gin Lovers & Less

This is by far he best restaurant we went to on the whole trip to Portugal, or at least the one that stands out the most! This is a restaurant and bar combination with gun lovers being the bar and less being the restaurant! We had a few plates to share which I would recommend doing as some of the portions are super small and the food is that delicious, this way you get to try more! The dish we both still can’t stop raving around is the Lemon & Scallop risotto which totally stole the show, closely followed by the Truffle Mash. We also had a glass of port after our meal which was I N C R E D I B L E! So good!

Nannarella

This is supposed to be the most delicious ice cream, Jack got really into watching somebody feed Phil where he visits Lisbon and so we had to go to this ice cream place that we went to in the programme! It definitely didn’t disappoint! I got the toffee ice cream and oh my gosh the giant chunks of caramel were an absolute dream!

WHERE TO DRINK

H10 Hotel

This is the perfect spot for an aperol spritz in the evening whilst the sun goes down over the city! We were actually staying at the H10 duque de loule so when one of the local taxis recommended the h10 rooftop bar as a hot spot to go for a drink we were delighted!

Topo Chiado

This was a tricky one to find! We spent a good 20 minutes searching for it on google maps and walking past it at every point until we found it tucked away. There’s an opening between stores by the new balance shop and it has a sign about massages so you would never know there was a bar there, we went just to check out what was there as we were so clueless to our map and then stumbled up on it! Another rooftop bar the Topo Chiado has the most amazing view of the city, another great spot for a glass of wine! Me and Jack spent a while there with a cold glass of wine and a meat platter!

Car Park Bar

The car park bar was a super hot spot in Lisbon that everyone who’d been before recommended to me. We had it on our list each and every night we went out then we ran out of time and never ended up going! For sure we will go next time though as I loved Lisbon and would love to go back!

Ginjinha Sem Rival

Ginja is a traditional Portuguese cherry liquor and there are little Ginjinha bars all over the city, this one was again a find by Jack from the programme Somebody Feed Phil so of course we had to try it! It was about €1.50 for a shot of Ginja and it’s the tiniest bar and you just stand and sip it! I  thought it was delicious, so so tasty that when we went to the local supermarket I picked up a bottle for myself and my parents to take home!
