Teeth Whitening Tips & Teeth Update | Lodge Dental

Dentist Teeth Whitening Tips - Lodge Dental
So since I last spoke with you guys I’ve begun my treatment with Dr Rhodri at Lodge Dental. The first step of my treatment plan is to whiten my teeth before we begin with any cosmetic dentistry. I’ve been using it now for a week and a half and I’ve already noticed a small difference myself though all of my friends and family have been commenting on how white they look and even some of my followers on instagram have noticed the change and mentioned it. I didn’t even realise it was that noticeable!!

So were half way into the whitening now with 3 weeks in total being prescribed and it’s honestly such a simple process. I had expected to feel a lot of sensitivity as I have heard so many horror stories on how teeth whitening makes your teeth hurt and as someone who’s already got very sensitive teeth, let’s just say I wasn’t looking forward to it. I prepared for it by visiting the hygienist and using sensodyne toothpaste for a week solidly before hand, even smothering it onto my teeth almost like a teeth mask overnight! I wasn’t taking any risks. Anyway, one and a half weeks in and my teeth are going strong, no sensitivity whatsoever as it stands!

Teeth Whitening Tips

I thought I would share some tips I was passed on with you guys for whitening your teeth if you get the kit from the dentist like I got from Dr Rhodri so you can make the most of it like I hope to! The process is super simple, I went in originally so that Dr Rhodri could take an impression of my teeth to create trays that fit my teeth perfectly. Each morning and night I fill the trays with the whitening mix and leave in for 30 minutes.

LESS IS MORE

Dr Rhodri told me this way before I started the teeth whitening but it seemed to have slipped my memory because even though I thought I was being frugal with the paste, it seemed I still overloaded the trays on the first go. It spilled out over the top and there was so much of it in there it did (the only time it did though) make my teeth sore and sensitive. When it comes to the amount of product it’s literally the tiniest dot it’s almost not there! As Dr Rhodri explained to me, it’s about the time you use the bleach for, not how much you put in. Whitening your teeth with a small amount of bleach over a longer period of time will be way more effective than overloading your trays and doing it for a week.

PUT IT IN THE CENTRE

The second thing to consider when you’re loading up your trays is where you’re going to put the product. Make sure you put the product in the centre of the trays where your teeth are so that it spreads evenly. If you put it in the bottoms then only the bottoms of your teeth will be pearly white, no one wants an ombre tooth now do they?

THE BLEACH WON’T POISEN YOU

You’re probably thinking duh I know but honestly when I used the whitening kit for the first time and the product spilled out over the edges I waste call short of the poison department, I swallowed so much of it! Luckily Dr Rhodri is a very patient man and assured me that the bleach could do no harm. It’s a formula that reacts on the tooth surface and though not suggested as part of a healthy balanced diet, Dr Rhodri assured me that I could in fact eat the entire load of it without getting ill. Crisis averted.

I definitely thought that the half an hour morning and night would be an issue but I’ve been surprised at myself not having missed a day, even with 5am starts and not getting home until 1.30am one night, I sat up until 2am and did them, thats dedication right?! I’m going to keep you guys updated with my teeth journey along the way so make sure you keep an eye out for my next post when I finish teeth whitening in a couple of weeks where I’ll be sharing a before and after!

I would love to hear if any of you guys have tried tooth whitening before and what method you used? Did you see a difference? Or maybe it’s something you’re considering getting done? Let me know if you have any questions at all and I would be more than happy to discuss with you!
