Double Denim Loving

Can we just take a minute to appreciate my hair in this photo? I think it’s my favourite photo of me ever for the pure fact that my hair looks like a genuine mane of golden, thick lusciousness. I only really discovered double denim a few months ago, I guess it happened the day I found the perfect denim shirt seen as my standard uniform is jeans, naturally double denim became my thing. I love how it looks with the crochet top underneath, it breaks it up a bit. It also gives me the opportunity to wear this beautiful Nana Judy top which I thought would have to be put to the back of my wardrobe till Spring, everyones a winner. I love this shot so much, I would say it’s probably one of my favourites since me and Alex first started taking photos for my blog together. There’s something about the angle and the way the door frames the picture that I just love! These photos were taken in a half hour slot between it chucking it down and pouring with rain so it was actually a pretty speedy shoot! I’m not gonna lie, I did worry about looking like a cowboy in these boots – not that looking like a cowboy is necessarily a bad thing? maybe it is? Sorry if you’re a cowboy and you’re reading this – no offence. I got these from Public Desire because I was instantly drawn to the shiny toe caps. I don’t know if you can see it here (or below) but I’m wearing one of the beautiful bras from my sisters lingerie line Elcy Clothing. Bras like that are meant to be seen, when you’re wearing a crochet top you can’t go putting you’re comfy bra on you need something pretty and lacy! What do you think to this look? How to Rock an LBD // Dorothy Perkins

Now before I start this post I’m going to say something that totally contradicts the entire thing. I’m not really a dress kinda girl. Obviously for special occasions I do wear dresses and if I’m totally honest I do want to be a dress girl but I’m just not. Thats why when it comes to party season I generally like to play it safe and stick to the wardrobe equivalent of an old best friend, the LBD – thats little black dress nan. I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I just happened to check my emails and none other than Dorothy Perkins had asked me to work with them! It was a serious moment for me. I’ve not really been blogging too long in the grand scheme of things but I’d like to think that I’ve thrown myself into it whole heartedly and moments like this truly show that hard work pays off! Anyway, enough gushing, back to the post. So I was asked to contribute to their party dress campaign to show my favourite kind of dress and how I style it up for the winter party season. Of course I chose none other than the LBD and I kept it really simple. I’m not one to go over the top (my general day to day uniform is jeans and a baggy jumper) so I like to keep it simple and let the dress do the talking. I went for all black accessories and some light jewellery, finishing the look off with some snazzy hair and make up – well snazzy for me. How to make the perfect distressed jeans // DIY

Now when I say perfect, we must use that word loosely. They’re perfect in my eyes, because of course I copied a pair that I saw and thought – I want, no need those jeans. And because I just so happened to have a pair in that exact shade of charcoal grey, one thing led to another and there I was sat with my jeans in one hand and a cheese grater in the other.Image courtesy of Aylin Koenig I first saw these jeans on instagram which led me to Aylin Koenigs blog so that I could get a better look. I don’t know what it was about them that caught my eye but I’ve been thinking about them a lot which in my head means, it’s fate and they must be mine. Now I’m a bit of a hap hazard DIY-er so I don’t really have a specific method that I used, A lot of cheese grating and sandpapering went into this. My general tips would be to use nail scissors to make small cuts and pull it apart gently to make sure you’re in control of the rip. I also used the sandpaper to make the cuts look more rustic and frayed. I am gutted though that I don’t know how to make the stringy bits on ripped jeans – does anyone know? If so can you help me? I’ve heard that tweezers help but I’m not sure if because these ones are super stretchy it isn’t possible to create that look?Anyway – heres the finished result! Let me know what you think? Is anyone else a casual DIY-er like myself? I always read blogs like a pair and a spare and just wish I had the motivation to make such beautiful stuff! Home Haul // Blogger Props

What do you do when you have a day off? Go to Ikea and stuff you’re face with meatballs of course! I did however have a hidden agenda, photography props. Now I know what you’re thinking, this girl is taking instagram far too seriously, someone help her. But honestly, how am I gonna get that, breakfast in bed shot without a tray and a pretty bowl? and yes I did post that this morning – not ashamed at all! Anyway, for those of you that also want to make your photographs pinterest worthy, Ive done a little blogger prop / homeware haul. Did you know, you can actually pin my photographs to pinterest by clicking on them in the centre- a little self promotion never hurt anyone!I was obsessed with these pretty plates and the bowl above, definitely wish I’d got the entire set for when I have my own house but for now one plate and one bowl will do for those ‘food porn’ shots! I’ve also become some what of a collector of fake flowers and at £1 a pop I couldn’t resist those fake orchids!I’ve decided that this year I will become a domestic goddess (slight overreaction) and have a wrapping theme. Which by the way I only just realised was a ‘thing’! They could make great backdrops too no? The rug was only £10 and although I prefer my real one it’s gone slightly creamy coloured which isn’t exactly instagramable now is it?! Ways to wear // Mixing it up

I may be a simple dresser but when it comes to my basics I love to mix it up a bit. I often find different ways to wear things, I always think it’s a great way of justifying a purchase. If you can wear it two ways then that’s halved the price surely? I’ve worked my magic on a couple of different pieces recently so I thought I’d share them with you. If you have any tips on different way’s to wear thing’s I’d love to hear, I’m always looking for different way’s of reinventing old pieces! This Wal G top is seriously soft and the most comfortable thing I’ve worn in a long time! I’ve stuck a white top underneath to make it daytime appropriate (for me at least!), plus it was cold and I was ill so I definitely wasn’t feeling the low cut/bare chest vibes. What I really love about a low cut top is spinning it round, us flat chested ladies suit a high neck much better and who doesn’t love a low cut back? I brought this top because of the soft knitted style and I can’t remember how much it was but it was from Primark so definitely a bargain of some form. After putting it on several times then quickly changing before I left the house I was ready to give it to charity. Then lightning struck, what about turning it round? I actually love the string across the neck, at first I thought it was a bit strange but now it’s definitely become one of my favourite tops! Make sure you make my day and follow me on Bloglovin’!
